The Florence Ring

With the Kelten Erlebnisweg and the Via Vallonia finished, it is time for a new project. So last week I traveled to Tuscany in Italy. The purpose of this trip was to get an impression of the region and the feasibility of a new Trail.

During the trip to Tuscany my impression that this is a nice region for walking, was confirmed. Now it is time to do some serious homework; finding the optimal Route, finding accommodations along the Trail and trying to get a grip on the public transport system.

The Trail will start and end in Florence; one of the cultural highlights of Italy and the only major town it visits. When possible, existing marked Trails will be used. From Florence the Trail will go
North and joins the famous Grande Escursione Appenninica (GEA). It then bears to the South-West passing through the marchlands of Fucecchio. Near Fucecchio the Trail joins the Via Francigena, a Pilgrims Route. Later it bears to the North-East through the Chianti hills and ends in Florence.

The length of the Trail will be 280 kilometer and it will give a good impression of different aspects of Tuscany. Because part of the Trail runs through the Apennines, the climate and the length of the Trail, it will be more challenging than the other Trails from Walking Trails of the World.

In September this year I will walk the complete Trail for the first time, making a Trail description on the way. Late spring 2015 a second time; checking everything. When planning a walking trip in Tuscany in the beginning of June 2015; consider the Florence Ring; it should be ready by then.
